2.33     understand the terms redox, oxidising agent and reducing agent

A redox reaction is one in which reduction and oxidation are occurring.  They ALWAYS occur together.  When one substance is oxidised, another one must be reduced.

An oxidising agent oxidises another substance whilst itself being reduced. A reducing agent reduces another substance whilst itself being oxidised.
