5.1        explain how the methods of extraction of the metals in this section are related to their positions in the reactivity series

Unreactive metals like gold occur native (uncombined with other elements).  Moderately reactive metals like iron can be extracted with carbon in a blast furnace.  Reactive metals like aluminium and sodium need to be extracted by electrolysis because they are higher than carbon in the reactivity series.
