3.12      describe the dehydration of ethanol to ethene, using aluminium oxide.

This is the reverse of the reaction in Section 3.9. Write out the equation! Ethanol vapour is passed over hot aluminium oxide. This can be done industrially in large quantity, or in the lab as shown below.  (Note in the picture, porcelain chips are shown.  This is where you would put the aluminium oxide.)
