5.24 understand how the cooling
of the reaction mixture liquefies
the ammonia produced
and allows the unused
hydrogen and nitrogen
to be recirculated
This works because nitrogen and hydrogen condense at a much lower temperature than ammonia. The gases are cooled to a temperature where
the ammonia condenses out, but the nitrogen and hydrogen are still gases. The ammonia is easily separated and piped
off.
