2.21     describe  the  formation  of  carbon  dioxide  from  the  thermal  decomposition of  metal carbonates such as copper(II) carbonate

When heated strongly, many metal carbonates will decompose to form a solid metal oxide and carbon dioxide gas, e.g., copper (II) carbonate.
CuCO3(s) → CuO(s) + CO2(g)
